About the UK Music Archive
The UK Music Archive is an independent reference site dedicated to documenting British music history from 1952 to the present day. We provide artist discographies, year-by-year music histories, and our own Trending 40 discovery feature.
Our Mission
We believe that music history should be accessible, accurate, and enjoyable to explore. Our goal is to build a comprehensive public reference for British music — cataloguing which artists released which songs, when they were active, and what was happening in UK music in any given year.
What We Cover
The archive spans over seven decades of British music, from 1952 to today. Whether you're researching an artist's full discography, exploring a particular year's musical landscape, or discovering what's generating interest right now, we've got you covered.
Data Sources & Methodology
Our discography data is compiled from open-access and public-domain sources including:
- MusicBrainz — an open music encyclopedia (CC0/public domain data)
- Wikidata — the structured data database behind Wikipedia
- Historical publications — publicly available music reference materials
All data is provided for educational and reference purposes. We do not reproduce rankings, chart positions, or proprietary data from any chart company.
The Trending 40
The Trending 40 is our own independent editorial feature. It highlights which UK artists and releases are generating interest and discussion each week. This ranking is based on our own methodology combining public signals of listener engagement, cultural activity, and editorial curation. It is not a sales chart and does not reproduce any chart company's rankings, positions, or data.
