About Neil Finn
Neil Finn is the rare artist who has found massive global success with two separate bands—and that’s not even counting his 2018 stint in Fleetwood Mac.
Born in 1958 in New Zealand, Finn first joined his older brother Tim in the band Split Enz in 1977.
He quickly brought straightforward pop sensibilities to the band’s quirky rock, penning 1980’s ominous “I Got You” and 1983’s tender “Message to My Girl.” Next, Finn formed the melodic, Beatles-esque Crowded House, whose 1986 self-titled album spawned the timeless ballad “Don't Dream It’s Over” and the jangly “Something So Strong.” The band’s 1996 split led to Finn releasing several solo albums (highlighted by 1998's Try Whistling This) and trying out collaborations such as 7 Worlds Collide, which featured Eddie Vedder and Johnny Marr.
